The Cube by Electrolux is a wondeful example of temporary, parasitic architecture. This compact structure houses a culinary experience conceptualized by Electrolux. It was developed and managed by Absolute Blue and designed by Park Associati. Designed to be placed in unexpected and dramatic European locations, it was launched in Brussels on April 1, 2011, where it sat atop of the Parc du Cinquantenaire for three months.

In its second location of the year, The Cube is now perched on the seventh floor on top of the roof of Number 1 Via Ugo Foscolo of Piazza del Duomo, in the heart of Milan. It was opened several days before Christmas of 2011 in Italy.

Dominated by Milan Cathedral, the Piazza is filled with impressive, monumental buildings. It is not only at the center of Milan, but it also has a historical, artistic, cultural and social importance; the Piazza is known as the place to mingle with the Milanese. The transparent and semi-transparent structure offers truly spectacular views of the Piazza del Duomo. The 18-person temporary restaurant and pavilion will be there until April 26, 2012, after which it will be reconstructed in another high-profile location in Stockholm or London.

Electrolux ensure guests enjoy a gastronomic experience that surprises and inspires with fantastic tastes and ideas presented in a unique setting. An intimate seating plan is retained for lunch and evening meals.

The design heritage of the Electrolux brand is reflected in the design of The Cube. Fully transparent and composed of glass surrounded by a white, laser-cut aluminum layer. On the floors, everything is white. The interior is white Corian™ with matte and glossy lacquered wood. The wooden floor and the carpet under the table give extra warmth and atmosphere. The outdoor terrace provides an exclusive view of the whole environment. The entire structure has an area of 150 square meters and weighs 60 tons.
