After appearing in Baby Reindeer as Teri, Nava Mau’s before-and-after-surgery photos have gone viral online. She has always proudly opened up about her gender, but before her present life, Nava Mau, too, had her struggles.
She came out as gay during her senior year of high school, as per her interview with Texas Monthly, given she was not aware of her preference.
Later, when Nava Mau started attending Pomona College in Claremont, California, she experimented on herself as she felt safe miles away from home.
That was when she transformed, as she recalls in an Instagram post of 2019, saying, “4 years ago, I decided to transition again, after living fully and freely as a genderqueer glitter queen.”
Before that, in 2011, Nava suffered from anorexia nervosa and had to withdraw from school to enter treatment. So, her transformation journey to what she has become now is one of a kind, which she has portrayed in her debut short film Working Hours.

Nava Mau has always been vocal about the discrimination and trauma she had to face when she came out to the world.
Until 2013, Nava did not look like she does today, as she had masculine features, but she knew somewhere that it was not the real Nava.
It was only after she joined the queer community after entering college that she identified herself as genderqueer before confirming herself as a trans woman.
So, it seems she underwent gender affirmation surgery as a process of coming out.
While comparing the before and after photos of Nava, it is visible that she had to do breast implants and lip fillers.
Also, the procedure included hormonal therapy to bring out the characteristics of the dominant character she wanted. It includes feminizing hormone therapy, which leads to bigger breasts, rounded hips, and a higher voice.

Yet, looking at her Instagram posts and movies produced by Nava, it is clear that she does not shy away from talking about her life and loves to support the LGBTQ community by whatever means possible.
