In 2013, during an exclusive interview with the Baltimore Sun, American professional boxer Gervonta Davis said that as a child, his older brother, Demetris Fenwick, highly influenced him.

He used to imitate his brother Demetris most of the time, and in the process, Gervonta even learned to smoke marijuana at just 8 years old. In this regard, he stated, “Anything he was doing, I was just trying to be like him.”

However, Gervonta later realized that everything he had been doing was not for him, and since then, he never smoked again, shifting his complete focus to his boxing career.

This shifting was more due to the tough upbringing Gervonta and his brothers faced due to their parents’ drug habit.

Gervonta Davis said his parents used to leave him and his brothers at home by themselves

While growing up, Gervonta Davis and his two older brothers never got a proper family environment as their parents, Garrin Davis and Kenya Brown, were completely into drugs.

Further, his father, Garrin, went to prison, and their mother, Kenya, never could become their ideal mother. So, they handled everything by themselves throughout their childhood.

While disclosing his life story with Vlad TV, Gervonta said, “Both of my parents were on drugs, and my mother left me and my brother at the house by ourselves.”

At one period of time, Gervonta and his brothers even ended up in foster care due to his mom’s recklessness. But, it was their grandmother who got them back home.

Their mother and grandmother never shared a good bond, which completely messed up their family relationship.

So, Gervonta was highly inspired to do better in his life and got completely occupied with boxing. That eventually caused distance between him and his brother.

They now rarely meet, which may be why information about his brother, Demetris Fenwick, is scarce.

Additional Information

  • Born on November 7, 1994, Gervonta Davis is currently 29 years old.
  • He began boxing when he was 7 and won his first World Championship at the age of 10.
  • Though his mother, Kenya, missed being a good mother to him, Gervonta has maintained a good relationship with her. She has come out clean for decades now.
