A multifaceted man, Gossage became a motivational speaker after retiring as Speedway Motorsports’s general manager in 2021.
Through his diverse career, Eddie Gossage earned considerable popularity as well as net worth.
Eddie Gossage thought he was wasting his four years of college on a low-paying job
Eddie Gossage studied four years of Bachelor of Arts course at the Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN, and received a degree in journalism.
While studying journalism at the university, he also wrote articles and was sports editor of The Sidelines, the university’s student newspaper.
Further, while working on the newspaper, Eddie Gossage met his first wife, Lena Jane Williams.
During his education at MTSU, he started working as the director of public relations at the Speedway, a job he got with the help of a fellow Tennessean sportswriter, Larry Woody.
At the Speedway, he used to earn a $9,000 salary per year, which was a very low payment that hardly covered his expences.
Gossage initially claimed that he regretted the job, as he was doing everything from being the janitor to a grass keeper, a chef, and a pace car driver.
His job was unrelated to what he had studied at the college, making him think he had wasted four years of college education to earn a low-paying job. The job also delayed his MTSU graduation in 1982.
TBT: Big Hoss TV is the largest TV screen in the world, certified by @GWR. They presented me with this certificate. These are rare and hard to come by so I’m proud to have my name on one.

He had started getting a little scared about his future, as he had no steady job.
Further, it was natural for Gossage to think that way as he was born into a middle-class family with nothing but “a roof over their heads.“
His father used to work at a packing house near the Cumberland River while his mother was a homemaker. Gossage’s family condition inspired him to work hard for his future.
However, his life changed when he joined Bristol International Raceway as an assistant general manager.
There, Eddie Gossage started earning a $20 million salary per annum. And the rest is history!
