In a recent time, the case of Douglass Barnes, where he slaughtered the teenage daughter of Sergeant Mike McCaffrey during her prom at Livonia High School, went viral over social media platforms. The incident is said to have happened on May 24, 2024.
Four days later, on May 28, a Twitter user named Smart Smith claimed the arrest of Douglass, tweeting, “Douglass Barnes, 45, in custody for mu*der of Livonia Police Sergeant Mike McCaffrey’s daughter, Samantha McCaffrey, 17….“

But debunking all the claims, Livonia police recently declared that the complete story of Douglass Barnes and Samantha McCaffrey is fake. They said, “It’s not going on in Livonia. It’s fake news going around social media.”
Further investigation shows that the main character of the Livonia prom revenge story is also man-made. There is neither a man who goes by the name Douglass Barnes nor a Livonia High School in Michigan.
Somebody seems to have created Douglass Barnes’ story based on Earnest Douglass Hall’s novel ‘An Eye For An Eye’
Since the Livonia police department confirmed that Douglass Barnes’ revenge case is fake, netizens seemingly became curious about how this viral story began.
Well, it appears like somebody created all these narratives, getting heavily influenced by Earnest Douglass Hall’s novel An Eye For An Eye, as the novel’s plot is also based on revenge.
The novel’s protagonist also takes the law into his own hands, like Douglass, to provide justice for his late daughter, who lost her life out of cruelty.
Further, in the fake Livonia revenge case, Douglass, after firing over Samantha, apparently waited for the police and shouted, “An eye for an eye,” which exactly matched the novel’s title.
So here, from the novelist’s name, Douglass, to the novel’s title and plot, everything resembles Samantha McCaffrey and Douglass Barnes’ case. So, we highly assume that the story is based on the novel, nothing else.
