It has always been difficult for Ramin Setoodeh to blend in with white people. However, after he started his new journey at Stanford, his father advised him to change his name to something Western to ease his journey.
Later, he realized the significance of his name’s history and chose to embrace it instead.
Although Ramin Setoodeh was born to parents of Iranian heritage, he was raised away from his roots in the US.
Initially, Ramin considered his father’s advice; however, as he imagined himself with a different name, he realized he did not like it. Each name he tried seemed to erase his history and the achievements attached to his original name.
Behind the curtain of personal privacy, Ramin’s professional life shines with success!
His journey to editor-in-chief at Variety began in his teens, where he honed his skills as the high school newspaper editor-in-chief. Before Variety, he excelled as a senior writer at Newsweek and The Daily Beast.
Working in Variety since 2013, he has crafted more than 50 cover stories for the magazine, featuring prominent figures like Lady Gaga, Ted Sarandos, and others.
Along with many awards, the Los Angeles Press Club named him Entertainment Journalist of the Year in 2018 for his exceptional work.
Alongside, he also serves as a host and executive producer of Variety’s Emmy-winning semi annual TV series, Actors on Actors.
In addition, the editor-in-chief is also an author who has written two books, Ladies Who Punch (2019) and Apprentice in Wonderland (2024).
For his second book project, Ramin began interviewing Donald Trump in 2021 and has conducted six sessions to date.
Yet, he notes that Donald Trump does not remember him and seems to have memory issues.
However, despite all these achievements and recognitions, Ramin has an estimated net worth of around $1 million.
