Pop Culture Roundup 24

Paging Jack Bauer, you are wanted at The Superslice headquarters. It’s Pop Culture Roundup 24, Agents.

The DREDD trailer finally dropped and it is over-the-top and entertaining (at header). I like Karl Urban and we’ll probably catch this one as a matinee. But is this franchise doomed like the multiple Punisher and Hulk movies they keep rebooting and repackaging? Looks like they borrowed a bit from Indonesian super-action flick The Raid: Redemption, with the action contained and going vertical. The law enforcement officers are after the villain but they’re secure in a fortified penthouse and will have to make it through every level of a towering edifice. The baddie is played by Cersei Lannister (Is Headey so good at playing bad she’s getting typecast as THE bitch?). Check out the nice Dredd one-sheet in PCR 22.

Here’s the red band trailer for Quentin Tarintino-endorsed martial arts movie The Man with the Iron Fists, a directorial debut for RZA (it was written by the Wu-Tanger and horror auteur Eli Roth) starring Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu. This is the epic story of how a white Aussie and a black dude from Shaolin (Staten Island) save feudal China, you know, like, history. I kid! It tells the story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero in nineteenth-century China who must unite to destroy the clan traitor who would destroy them all. Since his arrival in China’s Jungle Village, the town’s blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools of destruction. When the clans’ brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people.

Cool people will see this, Brah.

The film’s soundtrack will include new music from Kanye West, the Black Keys, Wiz Khalifa, Wu-Tang Clan, and RZA himself.

Speaking of martial arts, Keanu Reeves is upping the game by introducing some innovation to camera work/movement with his directorial debut, Man Of Tai Chi. Reeves will be utilizing the Bot & Dolly’s Iris, an advanced looking, robotically controlled camera system (seen here) to take viewers in, up and around the flying hands and feet.

Tri-boobied street hooker is in Total Recall! Yesssssss.

Cirque du Soleil x James Cameron = Worlds Away 3D

An intriguing science fiction film with veteran actor Frank LangellaRobot and Frank is set in the near future, an ex-jewel thief receives a gift from his daughter: a robot butler programmed to look after him. But soon the two companions try their luck as a heist team.

A couple TV spots for The Dark Knight Rises and some killer billboard marketing/advertising for the highly-anticipated epic.

I’m at a loss on this one. They’ll be lucky if I watch this on cable. Tyler Perry is awful and I don’t know if I buy Jack Shephard as an evil psycho antagonist. Alex Cross follows the homicide detective/psychologist (Tyler Perry as the titular role), from the worldwide best-selling novels by James Patterson, as he meets his match in a serial killer (Matthew Fox). The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits in this action thriller. Hmmm, serial killer movies can be entertaining, maybe we will catch it on cable…

Look, it’s David O. Russell‘s new film The Silver Linings Playbook about really good looking crazy people who find a love connection. It is based on Matthew Quick‘s debut novel of the same name. Pat Solitano is down on his luck. The former high school history teacher has just been released from a mental institution and placed in the care of his mother and father. Not one to be discouraged, Pat believes he has only been on the inside for a few months, rather than four years and plans on reconciling with his estranged wife. Refusing to accept that their apart time is actually a permanent separation, Pat spends his days and nights feverishly trying to become the man she had always desired.

Epic is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of Ice Age and Rio, Epic tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teenage girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world…and ours.

Breaking Bad Season 5, Breaking Bad Season 5, Breaking Bad Season 5

Sorkin’s The Newsroom debuted on HBO last Sunday and it was greeted with a less-than-stellar reception. You won’t be immune from rolling your eyes while watching but I find the show mildly entertaining. Critics are being unfair. Likewise, here’s an unfair, glib yet funny supercut of Aaron Sorkin‘s recycled lines.

“The Newsroom” is a very realistic show about a workplace where everybody has speeches written for them by Aaron Sorkin.

This video is a tribute to the work of Aaron Sorkin: the recycled dialogue, recurring phrases, and familiar plot lines. This is not intended as a critique but rather a playful excursion through Sorkin’s wonderful world of words.

For fun.

I know, Somebody That I Used To Know (Gotye) parodies are wack and tired but this one is clever and amusing. Lucas and his green screen, Man, ruined our childhood.

Nerd out to this fanmade Justice League trailer. Can this DC super-squad movie compete with The Avengers?

I’m federal agent Teemunny, and today is the longest day of my life. Seriously, I’m battling exhaustion and fatigue (or OLD) to bring you #24 and I hope you enjoy it. Before I go, I was wondering who gets the Scientology Spacecraft in the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes prenup? Does Xenu get Suri (Cruise not iPhone)?

I think Tim Burton should make a film simply titled DEPP. This Johnny Depp vehicle would chronicle the life and times of the luckiest man on Earth.

Now go check out the early fireworks…
