Debbie Duncan, the mother of 19-year-old teen Jay Slater from Oswaldtwistle Lancashire, flew all the way to the Spanish Island in search of her younger son, who went missing on June 17, 2024, in Tenerife.
Jay Slater was on a three-day holiday with his friends Lucy Mae and Brad to attend the NRG music festival.
During the trip, Jay started getting along with a new group of friends and eventually left Lucy and Brad to spend time with the new circle.

On June 17, 2024, Lucy received a phone call from Jay at around 8:50 am. He mentioned being thirsty while returning to his hotel room, and his phone was left with a 1% battery.
The teen’s last known location was in Rural de Teno Park, or the National Park of Teno, northwest of the island. According to his Snapchat message, he wore a white T-shirt, shorts, a black carrying bag, and trainers.
Jay Slater’s mother, Debbie, and older brother, Zak, are still in Tenerife, while step-father Andy is back home
When Debbie Duncan learned that her younger son, Jay Slater, had gone missing, she flew from Manchester Airport to Tenerife Sur Airport with her other son, Zak.
Jay Slater is the son of his parents, Debbie Duncan and his father, whose name is unknown, but he has a step-father, Andy.

Andy is currently 63 years old and working for Hyndburn Borough Council. He has a daughter named Sam, who, together with Debbie, looked after their children for almost 11 years.
They are natives of Lancashire, and Jay was an apprentice bricklayer at Accrington and Rossendale College.
Before going missing in Tenerife, Jay posted an image with two English lads, whom even Lucy and Brad did not know. When Lucy received Jay’s call, she frantically contacted the local police for help.
Lucy mentioned that she never had to worry this much in her entire life. Sadly, the search for Jay Sater is still ongoing, as per the official Facebook page created for Jay’s update.

His mother, Debbie, also reached Tenerife to contribute to the search, as helicopters, dogs, and specialist Mountain rescue and Intervention teams are looking out for him.
One of his friends said that Jay tried to reach the accommodation by walking after missing a bus.
Thus, police are following the pathway he might have taken, as this case is likely to take a turn like Dr. Michael Mosley’s, which many hope should not be the case.
Additional Information
- Jay Slater’s stepfather, Andy, stayed back at their home hoping for positive news, while his mother was too distraught and asked for help from the British consulate.
- Fake GoFundMe pages are being created under Jay Slater’s name, so his mother, Debbie, came forward to clarify the case as she has not opened one.
