Charles Edward Berry III surprised many by using his grandfather, Chuck Berry, the Father of Rock and Roll, iconic rhythm in his new music.
Even after Chuck Berry passed away long ago, his son, Charles Berry Jr., and grandchild, Charlie Berry, aka Charles Edward Berry III, kept him alive by playing his songbook at various events.
In 2019, Charles Berry Jr. and Charlie Berry played guitar together at the National Association of Music Merchants Show (NAMM) and amazed everyone with their fascinating skills.
Surprisingly, in the performance, Chuck Berry’s grandchild and his son recreated his famed ES-350T, which brought back his memories.
Charlie Berry and his father, Charles Berry Jr., played their grandfather’s last album and also promoted by performing it on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Chuck Berry’s grandchild, Charles Edward Berry III, developed a passion for music at the age of 6
Being surrounded by musicians and musical instruments all the time, it was normal for Charlie Berry to develop a passion for music at an early age.
He shared that he was 6 years old when he found a red Fender Stratocaster guitar under the Christmas tree, and he has been learning guitar ever since.
At first, Charlie started learning James Gang’s Funk 49, and later, when he got better, he started playing his grandfather’s albums.
During the pandemic, he delved deeper into songwriting and assembled bandmates to interpret early rock ‘n’ roll for a new generation.
Now, Chuck Berry’s grandson, Charles Edward Berry III, performs monthly at Blueberry Hill, the Delmar Loop venue.
Charles Edward Berry III and Jahi Eskridge, grandchildren of Chuck Berry, also performed his songs in the Blueberry Hills world-famous Duck Room 6504 Delmar University in 2022.
Charlie now produces and publishes songs by himself. He recorded albums with Mike Zito and Dr. Slappinstein, whereas his release with Mike Zito was a tribute to Chuck Berry’s music.
Further, Charlie Berry tries interpreting Chuck Berry’s work for a new generation.
Thus, many people consider that he is carrying on his grandfather’s legacy as he is the only grandchildren who can save his family’s music history.
Further, in the interview with St. Louis Public Radio’s Jeremy D. Goodwin, Charlie shared that few people in his family are interested in music now.
He said, “None of the younger generation in our family are really taking an interest in music right now. I realized it’s up to my cousin and myself.“
This statement might explain why people think he was forced into music. However, Charlie denied the rumor and said no one forced him to choose music as a profession, and it was his choice.
