Bryan Woo appears Korean-American to many but the baseball pitcher has yet to address his ancestry

Since Bryan Woo started playing for the Seattle Mariners, there has been much curiosity about his ethnic background. He looks different from the other American players, and meanwhile, people have speculated that he has Korean roots.

On June 11, 2023, MLB commentator Hoon Han from Korea tweeted,Is there any info on Bryan Woo’s ethnicity? Some people here want to know whether he’s Korean-American or not.”

Likewise, somebody asked if his grandparents were Korean immigrants in a Reddit thread. Well, the curiosities are yet to be addressed, as Bryan has never openly talked about his ethnicity.

But, based on his facial features and surname, there’s a lot of possibility that Bryan’s family might have a connection to Asia.

Bryan’s surname, ‘Woo,’ suggests that his ancestors might be from China or Korea. According to credible sources, 52.1% of people of Woo’s surname ancestry belong to China and 17.7% to Korea.

Whatever his origin is, Bryan Woo has lived his entire life in the United States

Seattle Mariners star Bryan Woo was born in Oakland, California, on January 30, 2000. Not only him, but his parents, Clayton Woo and Hilary Woo, are also natives of the United States.

As per the information available in the media, Bryan’s grandparents, John Woo and Nancy Woo, are the first recorded residents of California from his family. They owned a property in El Cerrito, California.

Likewise, his father, Clayton, was raised in Alameda, and probably his mom was too. And it’s obvious that Bryan and his sister Emily are Californians. Well, Bryan has a beautiful family and all of them are pretty supportive of his sports career.

Last year, in July 2023, when Bryan started his big-league baseball career, both his grandparents and parents made a major presence in the stadium, and they were absolutely blissed and proud to watch their child playing professionally.

In this regard, Bryan’s grandmother Nancy said, “It is wonderful. I am so proud of him. God gave him health and talent and I know that he’s going to use it well.”

Likewise, his father and grandfather also expressed their happiness while talking to the media from their suite.
