Alma Cooper, who became the first Afro-Latina woman to win the Miss Michigan USA, is following in her parents’ footsteps.
According to the reports, Alma Cooper’s mother, Oralia Cooper, was a pageant contestant, and her father, Stacey Cooper, was an Army major.

Similarly, like her father and mother, Alma Cooper follows both professions as a beauty pageant and an active-duty Army officer.
On Wednesday, Alma Cooper told Free Press, “As a lifelong Michigander raised in Okemos, I live the American Dream.“

The 22-year-old Miss USA shared the secret to her successful career at a young age, are her parents, who worked day and night to provide her with a good education.
In her bio at Standford University, Alma Cooper mentioned, “I’d watched my father serve nearly a decade overseas and admired my mother’s tireless service as a high school administrator.“

Remembering her parents’ hard work, she did not let herself be distracted from her goal and continued focusing on her education.
Moreover, from an early age, she was excited to follow in the footsteps of her father, who was the first army in her family. Therefore, she joined the Military Academy at West Point to enhance her leadership skills and push her physical limits.
Even though many people, including her college peers, had laughed at her decision to join the military, she made her parents proud by becoming the second army officer in her family.
Further, as Alma Cooper was becoming a skilled and confident Army officer, the Miss Universe organization provided her with an opportunity.
Remembering her mother’s dream of becoming a pageant, she accepts the offer and starts working to make her mother’s dream come true.

After she went to compete in the 2024 Miss USA, her mother, Oralia Cooper, 54, told them, “Every mom wants their daughter to follow their dreams, and also, to be their authentic self.”
In 2024, Alma Cooper became the first active-duty Army officer to win Miss Michigan USA.
