The world is crying over the loss of the original member of the 90’s band Train bassist, Charlie Colin, who met an unexpected demise after slipping in a shower in Brussels, Belgium, on May 22, 2024, while house-sitting for a friend.
Charlie Colin founded the band Train in 1993 alongside his teammates Pat Monahan, Rob Hotchkiss, Jimmy Stafford, and Scott Underwood.
While in the band, Charlie was a part of three albums: debut album Train (1998), whose single Meet Virginia broke the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, second was Drops of Jupiter (2001), which brought 2 Grammys for the band, and the last was My Private Nation (2003).
During his tenure with Train, Charlie made a name for himself, all thanks to the multi-platinum single Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me).
It earned the band around $2 million alone, given that it sold 1,200,000 units, with Charlie earning a share of $40,000. However, he left the band in October 2003 for substance abuse.
Charlie Colin was also interested in the arts at the time. So, after moving to Northern California, he started the Homeless Art Project, a multifaceted foundation to aid homeless artists.
It was all non-profit, distinguishing Charlie Colin as a Philanthropist, which he continued until his last breath.
Charlie Colin will be survived by his band members, partner, family, and children
The American musician Charlie Colin was born on November 23, 1965, to Christian parents: his mother, Anne, whom he referred to as Jackie O of Southern California, and his father, whose details remain unknown.
When he was 8, his family shifted from Virginia to Newport Beach, California, where he attended Newport Harbor High School.
To pursue a music career, he shifted from the University of Southern California halfway through his studies to Berklee College of Music in Boston and eventually joined the band Train in 1993.
However, after leaving Train, he joined Days of the New in 2014 and later started Painbirds with Hotchkiss in 2015. He went on tours with the band and eventually earned around $100k to $500k.
Charlie again joined The Side Deal band, which he started in 2017 and continued to be a part of until his death.
All these career shifts from one band to another led Charlie Colin to accumulate a net worth of around $2 million to $5 million, which is just an estimation as the official sites have not revealed the exact details.
Meanwhile, besides his career, Charlie will be remembered as a loving father, husband, and partner.
Charlie Colin engaged his wife-to-be, Laura Marie Booth, in 2017. They share two children: daughter Elle Baskurt and son Oliver Baskurt. However, they seem to have separated as of 2021.
He also calls Skylar Ruby Casie as his daughter, as seen on his Instagram post, whose mother is Nicole Wood and seems to be older than his other two children. Yet, how they are exactly related remains unclear.
Recently, Charlie Colin was dating his partner, Allison Lovus, who had a stepdaughter, Serena Lovus. Their relationship stemmed off since 2021.
Altogether, the family of Charlie Colin is going to miss him after the unexpected accident took his life.
As a big fan of Train band, I am out of words for this loss. May Charlie’s soul Rest in Paradise.
