As the presidential election gets closer, Tim Walz, now nicknamed ‘Tampon Tim’ has been trending number #1 on X (formerly Twitter).
This nickname gained traction after presidential candidate Kamala Harris announced Tim Walz as her running mate.
Tim Walz received the nickname after he signed a 2023 Minnesota law mandating free tampons and other feminine hygiene products in all public school restrooms. On Twitter, there have been people criticizing him and taking his side.
One user on Twitter says, “First, Time Walz puts tampon machines in boys’ bathrooms and democrats think it’s normal…” Many users have also made caricatures of him and edited pictures of him with tampons.
However, Tim Walz also has supporters as a user says, “Calling Walz ‘Tampon Tim’ for putting tampons in bathrooms for women is not the sick burn they think it is.“
Another user also shows their support, “Does MAGA not understand that #TamponTim isn’t an insult? When did a Man making sure young girls aren’t bleeding through their clothes at school become a problem?”
The name Tampon Tim has taken hold outside Twitter as well!
People outside Twitter have also been making use of the name Tampon Tim, even in news shows.
On the topic of him getting a nickname, the Daily Show correspondent Michael Kosta says, “With all due respect to Tampon Tim, I really just don’t care about this.“
Even Hillary Clinton posted on Twitter, “How nice of the Trump camp to help publicize Gov. Tim Walz’s compassionate and common-sense policy of providing free menstrual products to students in Minnesota public schools!“

The general public, especially Republicans and Democrats, seems to be taking a different stance on the topic.
The Republicans, who named him ‘Tampon Tim,’ are outraged that he put menstrual products in the boys’ bathroom. On the other hand, the Democrats seem to think this decision has made student life easier.
