21-year-old American swimmer Torri Huske, who recently became an Olympian by winning a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics, comes from a stable family background as her parents have achieved pretty much in their professional endeavors.
Her mother, Ying Weng Huske, is an IT specialist. She currently works for the Naval Sea Systems Command in Carderock. As per NSWCCarderock’s tweet, she leads the team that manages and develops cyber infrastructures.
Before joining Carderock, Ying was the system admin at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport.
Similarly, Torri’s father, Jim, has been an executive coach, Organizational Consultant, and Assessor in Organizational Assessment & Development Inc. since February 2014.
Jim Huske, father of Torri Huske, has had a long career in politics
Torri’s father, Jim Huske, was involved in politics before becoming an organizational consultant.
Jim began as an administrative intern for the City of Dekalb, Illinois, in August 1991. After working there for two years, he joined the Office of Personnel Management in Washington as a Presidential Management Fellow, overseeing the annual budget, regional training chiefs meetings, and many more.
In April 1994, Torri’s father joined the Office of United States Senator J. Robert Kerrey in Nebraska as a Legislative fellow, per his LinkedIn profile.
Subsequently, Jim then became a policy analyst at the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and was later promoted to senior budget analyst, serving the position for exactly 10 months.
After that, for the next ten years, Jim served at Graduate School, USDA, as the director of the new leader program, institutional planning and research, and business development and sales.
Then, he transferred to Graduate School USA, where he worked for almost seven years, first as a vice president for Marketing, Sales, and communications, then as Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President.
Torri Huske considers her mother, Ying, the biggest inspiration for her athletic career
Swimmer Torri Huske was around five or six years old when her parents, Jim and Ying Huske, took her to a swimming session. Since then, they have consistently supported her in her journey to becoming what she is today.
However, Torri considers her mother as her inspiration, as she admires her courage in going for what she likes to do.
Torri said that her mother, Ying, was initially an architecture student, but since she didn’t like architecture, she joined Virginia Tech and started studying engineering. Engineering also felt boring to her, so she became an IT specialist.
Torri finds her mom’s guts to take a chance really cool, and that’s what inspired her. In this regard, Torri said, “I feel like she is a really big inspiration to me. Yeah, I’m just lucky to have her. I feel like I’m living out my American Dream.”
