The 33-year-old activist Olivia Maurel, the daughter of a surrogate mother, said that she and her French parents never shared an emotional bond throughout their life.
During an exclusive talk, Olivia Maurel added her French parents, who obtained her through financial transactions, fulfilled her every materialistic requirement, but emotionally, she always felt lacking as a child.
“Materially, I wanted for nothing. But emotionally it was a different story. Neither of my parents were affectionate ‘huggy’ types and a succession of nannies, an army of different women, looked after me much of the time.“
Olivia Maurel continued, “Why, you might wonder, when my parents went to such lengths to have me, did I not feel showered with love?“
Well, according to Olivia, no biological connection between her and her parents might have caused an affectionless relationship.
Olivia Maurel had a complicated childhood due to her parents’ poor parenting style
While growing up, Olivia Maurel always felt something unusual about her parents, especially their parenting style.
In an interview with Onesmag, the activist said, “My parents were older than the average of my friends’ parents, and I had an “older” style of upbringing.”
“I never had the relationship with my parents that I currently have with my children. I never cuddled with them, I never trusted them, even though I had everything I needed, materially speaking.”
She further stated that those circumstances led her to face several complications. “This hunch became more intense during my teenage years. I became a very complicated teenager (more difficult than the average teenager, I think) and was extremely difficult with my parents. I actually mentally distanced myself from them at those times.“
Eventually, around 2016-2017, Olivia Maurel started researching the reality behind her birth as she always sensed something fishy on her birth certificate and finally discovered that her parents got her through surrogacy.
Olivia Maurel’s biological mother is an American surrogate woman
The Louisville-born activist Olivia later realized that her French mother was not her biological mom; instead, it was an American surrogate woman. In this regard, she once said, “I was born in Kentucky because an American surrogate gave birth to me there.“
“Mere seconds after I was born, I had been rapidly removed from the woman who had become pregnant with me — using her own eggs — and had carried me for nine months.“
As stated, her legal parents moved her away from her biological American mom soon after her birth. “Rather than being placed in my biological mother’s arms to be nurtured and adored, I was handed over to a man and woman who had, put simply, paid an awful lot of money for me.“
In later years, the experience she had as a child born from surrogacy led her to voice herself against it as she firmly believed that children born via surrogacy could never bond with their legal parents.
