Most of these claims stated that a Haitian ate someone’s pet cat, and others were seen eating ducks and swans in public parks.
Despite the claims, the authorities have not been able to put forward any concrete evidence supporting them.
From body cam footage to TikTok video, here’s the truth behind migrants eating ducks and other pets in Ohio!
The narrative started with an August meeting of the Springfield City Commission. There, a 28-year-old man claimed that Haitian migrants were beheading ducks at local parks and taking them home to eat. This statement, however, lacked any evidence.
Following this, someone made a post in a Springfield Facebook group claiming that a friend’s cat had gone missing. They stated that someone saw the cat strung up and butchered for dinner in a Haitian migrant’s yard.
Furthermore, the post stated, “I’ve been told they are doing this to dogs, they have been doing it at Snyder park with the ducks & geese, as I was told that last bit by Rangers & police. Please keep a close eye on these animals.“

A viral video showed a woman whom police had arrested for allegedly killing a cat and eating the animal. On August 16, 2024, police arrested a woman named, Alexis Telia Ferrell, of Canton, in Ohio.
The body cam footage showed Alexis during a maddened rampage on August 16. She allegedly stomped the cat and then ate it in front of her neighbors.
However, police later revealed that she was not a Haitian migrant and was a lifelong Canton resident.
Another image went viral supporting this narrative. Someone first posted it in a Reddit group dedicated to Columbus, featuring a photo of a man holding a goose upside down. However, the poster didn’t provide any context behind it.
Likewise, another Twitter post showed a screen recording of a video where a man was burning a cat on a stove.
Police, as mentioned earlier, have refuted these claims. According to the officials, there were no popular instances of Haitian migrants stealing or eating ducks or other pets.
JD Vance and Elon Musk were some of the notables to jump on the bandwagon!
Ohio senator, JD Vance, became one of the first major politicians to comment on the narrative or the viral videos of migrants eating ducks or pets in Springfield, Ohio.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Vance wrote, “People have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn’t be in this country.”
Similarly, Elon Musk also expressed his POV by commenting and reposting AI-generated images of Donald Trump saving kittens and ducks.
Likewise, Donald Trump spoke about this during the presidential debate. He claimed saying, “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs. The people that came in, they’re eating the cats, they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.“
The moderators corrected the record, but Trump claimed that people on TV had been talking about it.
Additional Information
- A spokesperson has stated that these claims were false. There have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being injured, harmed, or abused by anyone from the migrant community.
- The Springfield Police Department also has not received any reports about pets being eaten or stolen. To debunk some of the claims, the city has even created a webpage.
