On January 31, 2020, Kiernan Hughes made a call to 999, asking for an ambulance, claiming his stepdaughter had an accident after falling from a dollhouse when he was downstairs.

Her injuries made police suspicious of his earliest statement of his daughter falling from the dollhouse and injuring herself.
Further, police immediately sent the girl to the hospital and placed her in an induced coma, where she remained for 14 days.
After the examination of the little girl’s body, authorities claimed the injuries in the little girl’s body sustained between October 2019 and January 2020.
Moroever, Kiernan Hughes, who often explains how much he loved and cared for his stepdaughter, was found sending threatening messages to his ex-girlfriend, saying things like, “She’s actually getting on my nerves. I am going to hit her.“
Further, during his court hearing, the prosecution barrister confirmed Kiernan Hughes never thought of his ex-partner’s children as his own kids, as he always referred to her as ‘your children’ or ‘your child’ to the child’s mother.
