Fringe means a decorative border of hanging threads left loose or formed into tassels. Likewise, the meaning of Fringe is also the border or outer edges of an area or group, as per Merriam-Webster dictionary.

A Frill is a gathered, pleated, or bias-cut fabric edging used to decorate clothing. For example, “The dress had a lace frill around the collar.” Meanwhile, Trim is an additional decoration, typically along the edges of something and in contrasting colors or materials.

Likewise, in today’s NYT Connections, Wax is a verb meaning to increase in size, numbers, strength, or volume.

Lastly, the red herrings in today’s Connections are Neat and Swell, which won’t go together.
