After the historic prisoner exchange between the US and Russia, all eyes are set on journalist Evan Gershkovich, who is one of three Americans that Russia had held as prisoners for over 16 months of custody.
Amidst his imprisonment, his close friends Polina Ivanova, Masha Borzunova, and Pjotr Sauer actively campaigned for his return.
Talking to the Wall Street Journal, Polina even said, “I feel like I’ve lived half a life,” after his imprisonment, but she is not the wife of Evan Gershkovich.
Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich has not disclosed any information about his wife or his marital status. Although people have been curious about his marriage and relationship, it looks like Evan has yet to tie the knot.
There has been no public announcement of a wife or partner anywhere, and Evan Gershkovich has also not revealed this information on his social media.
Evan Gershkovich’s family shares their relief as he is no longer a prisoner of Russia!
While following his dream of becoming a foreign correspondent, Evan Gershkovich was a prisoner in Lefortovo, a Moscow prison.
In March 2023, a Russian court sentenced Evan Gershkovich to 16 years in prison for espionage only last month. He was, however, detained in March 2023.
On August 1, 2024, Evan got out of prison as part of the biggest prisoner swap between Russia and the West since the Cold War.
After his release, his family put forth a statement expressing their relief and gratitude to President Joe Bide. The statement reads, “We have waited 491 days for Evan’s release, and it’s hard to describe what today feels like.“
They further added, “We are grateful to President Bide, Secretary Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Chancellor Scholz, and every US or foreign government official who helped get Evan released.“
Expressing positive reactions towards Evan’s release, netizens have heartily welcomed the prisoners upon their return.
Following these anxious times, Evan and his family are taking the opportunity to spend time with each other.
