Chappell Roan made her parents anxious during high school when she decided to sing while playing piano at the school talent show; her mother, Kara Amstutz, did not want the other kids to make fun of her daughter as she was unaware of Roan’s talent.

So, as a tribute to her grandfather, the Good Hurt singer took the last name and made it her first name.
As she needed some interesting touch, she chose her grandfather’s favorite country song, The Strawberry Roan, as her inspiration and added ‘Roan’ to ‘Chappell,’ thus the name.
