Chappell Roan made her parents anxious during high school when she decided to sing while playing piano at the school talent show; her mother, Kara Amstutz, did not want the other kids to make fun of her daughter as she was unaware of Roan’s talent.

It was normal for them to think so as none of the immediate members of the Amstutz family were musical, and she came from a very normal family with scholar parents.

However, after hearing the entire auditorium clap for their daughter’s Christmas song in the high school talent show 2013, Kara and Dwight did not hesitate to support Roan.

Even in an interview, Chappell Roan said that when she felt like giving up or quitting, her parents pushed her hard and helped her tremendously through her school.

As her childhood went smoothly, Roan became a family girl. She said she missed being with her family and friends as she often travels due to tours and has less time to enjoy her moments with family.

Chappell Roan’s name is a dedication to her late grandfather and his favorite song

The singer-songwriter Chappell Roan, real name Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, is 26 years old, born on February 19, 1998, in Willard, Missouri, to parents Kara Amstutz and Dwight Amstutz.

Her mother is a veterinarian, while her father manages a family practice and has a registered nurse license in neurological and burn ICU.

Roan is the oldest among her three siblings, who grew up following Christian beliefs and attending church three times a week. However, she was suffocated by that, so she often tried to escape it in the later days and now does not link herself to any religion.

Surprisingly, Roan was never in choir; she herself said her voice was unfit for it. So, at 12, she developed an interest in playing the piano.

After this, Roan won the school talent show, the singer turned to songwriting, and even entered America’s Got Talent at 14. Yet the journey did not go as she expected.

Later, she started uploading music to YouTube, leading to a Springfield performance as Kayleigh Rose, probably when she was 16.

Then came the moment when Kayleigh had to choose a stage name for herself, giving birth to Chappell Roan.

This moment was when Roan had just turned 19, and her grandfather, PJC Insurance co-founder Dennis Chappell, was in the last stage of cancer and would not be there to hear his granddaughter sing on stage.

So, as a tribute to her grandfather, the Good Hurt singer took the last name and made it her first name.

As she needed some interesting touch, she chose her grandfather’s favorite country song, The Strawberry Roan, as her inspiration and added ‘Roan’ to ‘Chappell,’ thus the name.

Additional Information

  • According to one of her TikTok videos, Chappell Roan almost got married twice in her life, but currently, she is single and has identified herself as a queer.
  • She has suffered from bipolar II disorder since she was 22. However, Chappell Roan tried to overcome it through medication and therapy.
  • From the charting music singles and tours, Chappell Roan has accumulated a total net worth of around $4 million, which is sure to rise as her monthly Spotify listeners increased by 500% from February to April and will continue to do so.
