The Australian professional basketball player Cayla George has much to celebrate, including a recent bronze win in the Olympics, which was only possible with the unwavering support of her husband, Kailou George.
Kailou George is a 33-year-old basketball player who plays for Erub United, a local team in Australia that the KYKOE group sponsors. He has also supported Cayla in her basketball career as her assistant coach during home game sessions.
The couple are proud parents of their daughter, Pearl, and two dogs and have built a beautiful life in their Australian mansion. Kailou boasts followers of 2.2k on Instagram, where he often shares pictures of his daughter, wife, and gym sessions.
Further, he regularly dedicates posts to Cayla, most of them playful. One of them said, “Help ❓ I’ve got a praying mantis on my back 😂 😍” as she clung to his back. This provided fans a peek inside a healthy relationship between the athlete and her husband.
Coming from Torress Strait Island, Kailou has kept his family close to his cultural values and traditions, including his wife, who comes from the Southern part of the county.
Cayla George and her husband adopted their daughter from a close family member!
The athlete wanted to start a family soon after their marriage, but there was a barrier as Cayla often experienced issues with her menstrual cycle.
Moreover, the struggles resulted from constant training and stress from back-to-back national and international tournaments.
However, her friends and family suggested numerous ways to start a family to Cayla before her husband came to her rescue and introduced her to an indigenous culture.
Additionally, in Torres Strait Island, families practice a form of adoption called Island adoption, where a family member gifts babies to couples struggling with childbirth, showing the highest respect for their culture.
After the 2016 Rio Olympics, Kailou’s sister agreed to set the perfect timing for all the parties to conceive a baby.
Later, in 2022, Cayla announced that her sister-in-law was pregnant with Pearl, which came at a perfect time as Queensland legalized Island adoption in 2020.
Likewise, the athlete and her husband have fulfilled their year-long dream by being named Pearl’s birth parents.
In an interview about parenthood, Cayla said, “We’re constantly overthinking, constantly trying to better ourselves, and probably not giving ourselves enough credit. There’s a lot of negative talk that we deflect and with social media, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves.”
Soon after her daughter’s arrival, Cayla returned to basketball while Kailou helped babysit their daughter, hoping to bring new members to the George family in the future as well.
