Zachary N. Coates, a 25-year-old hiker of Calgary, who has been missing in Mount Smuts, Kananaskis, Alberta, since Sunday, August 11, 2024, was last seen hiking along at 1:00 pm local time.
According to his family, Zachary Coates went alone for a hike in Mount Smuts and has not been in contact since and his phone goes straight to voicemail. His family and friends have been holding out hope for his safe return.
Thousands of people are sharing his missing post on social media, and several search efforts are actively searching for him, including motorcycle and helicopter search and emergency services in Kananaskis. The Calgary Police has also been actively searching for his traces.
Furthermore, reports say that his grey Toyota Tacoma truck, which has a bicycle rack with either a green, black, or blue bicycle attached and a license plate number 2321, was parked at the Trailhead of Mount Smuts. Before missing, he was wearing a white helmet, harness, rope, headlamp, and other hiking gear.
Similarly, Zachary Coates’s mother, Tina Butler, recently shared a piece of information on his missing case, stating that her ex-husband’s fiancee called her to inform her that people discovered a body, but they have not been able to confirm whether it is Zachary’s body or not.

According to several reports, the body is currently being verified to check whether it is Zachary Coates or not. Similarly, some reports have also confirmed his demise.
A Facebook post shared on August 12 states that they got unfortunate news from Zachary’s mother, Tina, and his body is not verified yet. In response to this post, many people shared their heartfelt prayers with his family, wishing for his safe return.
Many are also saying that Zachary fell while climbing the mountain, which unfortunately caused his demise, and people are sending condolences to his family and friends. Still, his family has yet to confirm his demise.
Before missing from the Mount Smuts area, Zachary Coates was a facilities engineer at Cenovus Energy in Paradise, Newfoundland, and Labrador, Canada.
