Cole Emhoff, the son of the second gentleman of the United States, Douglas Craig Emhoff, recently shared an emotional video at the DNC about his parents just ahead of his father’s speech.
On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Democratic National Convention, the 30 year-old Cole Emhoff talked about his stepmom, Kamala Harris, and how their life has changed since his father, Doug, married her in 2014.
Cole played the video by showing old and new pictures and videos of his father, Doug. He also talked about the divorce of his father, Doug, and his mother, Kerstin Emhoff, when he was in middle school, but his parents decided to stay friends and grew closer, hanging together.
He talked about how his father met then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris on a blind date when Cole was in his senior year of high school, dramatically changing their lives forever.
Likewise, Cole Emhoff recalled how he and his younger sister Ella would laugh watching them fall in love, acting like teenagers. He stated, “In 2014, Kamala became Momala, she took over Sunday night dinners and taught Doug how to actually cook.“
He ended his speech by saying that though initially his family wasn’t used to politics when Kamala became a senator and vice president, they were excited, especially Doug, who has supported her throughout her political journey. Cole added, “I was so proud to watch him do it, to stand by her side, an example of true partnership.“
