It’s been more than a year since Sheng Thao has been serving the mayor position of Oakland, California. She won the mayoral election on November 18, 2022, and took office two months later in January 2023.

After Sheng was elected mayor, a proposal to raise her salary by $75,000 was made, which was not approved. But, a city council member agreed to a $13,000 increase, bringing Sheng’s annual salary to $216,000, as per The Oaklandside.

In that case, she has already added $324,000 to her bank account, making her the fourth highest-paid mayor of California State after Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Fransisco, ABC reports.

Well, just being the mayor hasn’t earned her enough money to make her a millionaire, but her political career history, which dates back to 2014, has contributed significantly in increasing her net worth.

Reports show Sheng Thao made $86,741.75 solely in the year 2015

According to Transparents California, City Council paid a total amount of $86,741.75 to Sheng Thao. At the time, she worked as a Council Aide to Council president pro Team Rebecca Kaplan and Chief to Staff to Councilmember At-Large.

A year later, in 2016, she was paid a regular salary of $73,094.48. However, with a base salary plus benefits, Sheng made a total of $116,635.

Well, summing up this amount, she added $203,376 to her bank account in just two years.

In 2019, Sheng joined the City of Oakland as a Council member on the President Pro Team, making an annual salary of $85,382.97. She remained in the position for more than four years, earning a total of $354,528 during her tenure.

Further, she also has been a board member at Chabot Space & Science Center since March 2019. Sheng also worked as a Program analyst & event coordinator at UC Berkeley and as a research & planning assistant at Merritt College.

Well, looking at all this, it can be said that Sheng Thao has accumulated a net worth of $1 million, and the amount is likely to exceed it in the coming years if the CBI, who recently raided her house, frees her.
