The founder and senior Pastor of the mega-church Gateway Church, Robert Morris, had chosen his son James as his successor in February 2022, and the role switch will take place in 2025, according to the church’s official site.
Pastor Robert Morris presented the idea to the church’s elders, who had James undergo rigorous interviews for six months and various intelligence and leadership tests before accepting the proposal.
"I'll become…the senior Apostolic Elder, the lead Apostolic Elder. So I will still at any time be able to come into the eldership and say 'I want to share some things'"

IN 2022, Robert Morris had big plans for when he passed the torch at his church, but it was all hubris. pic.twitter.com/1crXnbXbbg
The position of Senior Pastor was a great deal for the church as Robert established the Gateway in 2000 with a vision to serve God. He started the church with just 30 people from his home in Southlake, Texas.
Now, it serves around 10,000 attendees weekly in nine campuses in Dallas-Forth Worth and Robert Morris, as the Senior Pastor receives an annual salary of $350,000.
After the succession transfer, James will be on the receiving side, and the salary will probably reach around $400,000, given the salary growth rate for the Senior Pastor and the successor of the mega-church.
Robert Morris holds a total net worth of $117 Million, as per the SGX NIFTY
Pastor Robert Morris, born July 29, 1961, has been the founder of the Gateway Church for around 24 years, which has led to his net worth reaching around $117 Million, according to SGX NIFTY.
It seems he has a store under Gateway Church’s website where devotees can buy products from Gateway Publishing, Gateway Music, and Pastor Robert Morris Ministries.
Pastor Robert Morris has resigned from Gateway Church following @wartwatch’s recent bombshell report that Morris had sexually molested a 12 year old girl. Morris’s estimated net worth is $117M. Here he is, telling his congregants to “tithe.” They should demand refunds. 1/ pic.twitter.com/sFEQja2b9e

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry Watch report, the Robert Morris Evangelistic Association, seemingly a business entity of Gateway Church, receives contributions from various organizations.
Form 990 showed that the Association received $193,626 in 2019 and $211,000 in 2018, while Robert received an annual salary of $300,000 and $350,000, respectively.
So, Robert Morris’s millions of net worth are not surprising unless an unethical source is involved, which is not seen to be the case.
Apart from being a preacher and pastor, Robert Morris is also a chancellor of The King’s University and an author who has published books titled The Blessed Life, Dream to Destiny, The God I Never Knew, and Grace, Period.
Robert Morris has an estimated net worth of $117 million, has resigned from his position on the Board of Elders of Gateway Church. I suppose the only remedy at this point would be financial? He also runs a television program that airs in over 185 countries and hosts a radio program, Worship & the Word, with Pastor Robert, which airs in over 6800 cities.
So, considering the Senior Pastor’s endeavors, Robert Morris’ assets and net worth seem justifiable.
Additional Information
- Robert Morris married his wife, Debbie Morris, on May 2, 1980, and are parents to one married daughter and two married sons, Josh, and James Morris.
- They are also grandparents to nine grandchildren, and the couple lives in Dallas, Fort Worth, Texas.
- Robert Morris resigned from his position at Gateway Church on June 18, 2024, after the trustees found out about the sexual abuse that he did during his twenties to a teen girl.
The son of Robert Morris should not be allowed to be the senior pastor of Gateway Church in any capacity. If he’s allowed to do this Robert will still have his nose or his hand in all the church’s business.
Besides the church members should be allowed to find their own pastor of Gateway
Church.
Anyone remotely involved with the Morris Family should bow out of ministry at Gateway
Church.
