Pakistani-Canadian Umar Zameer, who was accused of a crime he did not commit, stated it was a very rough year from which he could never move on or forget.

After the jury delivered its verdict on Sunday, proving the 34-year-old Umar Zameer innocent, his family cried out with happiness and relief.

However, even though he is now free from all the charges, his family went through a tough time during those three years, which he spent going on trials justifying his innocence.

Umar Zameer comes from a middle-class Pakistani family

Umar Zameer, who is of Pakistani nationality, was born and raised by Muslim religious parents. He later moved to Canada in search of opportunity and with the hope of having a better career there.

Born into a middle-class family, Umar Zameer started working as an Uber driver before becoming an accountant, a job he got with the help of a close friend.

After living in Canada for years, he became a permanent resident. He married his current wife, Aaida Shaikh, and within five years, he became the father of two children and started living a happy life.

The beautiful life of Umar Zameer was turned upside down when a Canadian cop, Jeffrey Northrup, tragically passed away after getting hit by a vehicle in an underground parking garage.

Police Investigation suggested Zameer to be the prime suspect. After the accusation, he had to fight for his innocence, which took nearly three years.

Further, at the time he was in custody, Zameer’s wife, Aaida Shaikh, was 8 months pregnant with their third child.

During those unaccountable trials, he lied to his children when they asked him to spend time with them or take them on vacation.

On the other hand, his family had to sell their private property to cover the cost of his $335,000 bail and ongoing legal expenses.

Those harrowing years made Zameer and his wife think their decision to move to Canada was wrong.

However, after pleading non-guilty, Zameer said he wanted to thank the country for providing justice.
