In August 2022, Ashley Bocanegra, who was 30 at the time, succumbed to the injuries she sustained during a fight. She was lured to an apartment in Buford and was fatally beaten during the altercations with Antonetta Stevens and Janine Gonzalez.
The altercations were allegedly motivated by a complicated romantic entanglement between Ashley Bocanegra, Antonetta Stevens, and Janine Gozalez’s brother, Daniel Gonzalez.
In August 2024, the police released raw footage of a chilling reaction of Stevens once she realized she was facing jail time.
Now, the video has gone viral on social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit, with over 9 million views, gathering public scrutiny and criticism.
Antonetta Stevens didn’t have any intention to fight with Ashley Bocanegra, which resulted in the latter’s demise!
Stevens pretended to be her husband to lure his mistress, Ashley Bocanegra, to their home in Buford. Upon arriving there, Stevens, 27 at the time, and her husband’s sister, Janine Gonzalez, 17 at the time, fatally beat her.
They also grabbed her phone to inform Bocanegra’s husband about the affair and left her sitting bloodied in the street as they returned to the apartment.
Daniel was asleep at the time and awoke to the sound of Bocanegra knocking at the door, asking for her phone back.
They eventually handed it back, and she limped away. Shortly after, police arrived in response to a 911 call from their neighbor.
Janine filmed the whole altercation, including both women beating Bocanegra and dragging her down the street by her hair.
Following the fight, Ashley Bocanegra took herself to hospital, where she later succumbed to internal bleeding.
The police later arrived at Stevens’s home to inform her about the fatal consequences of their altercation that day.
When they arrived, Stevens showed little interest in the news, which appeared to be an insensitive reaction.
Stevens said, “She died? … Okay, um, wow, I’m so sorry about that — that was not my intention,” with her sister-in-law Gonzalez standing behind her on the doorstep. She then quickly blamed Bocanegra for ‘showing up here’ for the fight and stated that it was mutual.
Furthermore, Stevens then complained that she had been mentally going through a lot and that she had bipolar depression.
The footage, released two years after the incident, showed Janine laughing while recounting the incident!
The incident that took place in August 2022 made headlines across the country. However, Law & Crime published extensive police interview footage two years later in 2024.
In the interview, Janine repeatedly laughed as she recounted the incident. Initially, she was unaware that her freedom was about to be snatched.
But as soon as her interviewer informed her that she was also facing the murder charges, her grin froze on her face.
On the other hand, after the detectives left Stevens alone momentarily with a homicide charge, her head fell to the table.
She told detectives that, “I don’t go out looking to harm anybody. It wasn’t my intention to even get into an altercation with her today.”
Both women are serving 20-year sentences in Arrendale State Prison for voluntary manslaughter and robbery by force.
