NFL wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans DeAndre Hopkin’s mother, Sabrina Greenlee, was the victim of an acid attack that occurred back in 2002.

According to Hopkin’s mother, Greenlee, she was dating a young man for three and a half months in 2002 without being aware that the man had a girlfriend who, out of jealousy, attacked her.

Sabrina Greenlee stated she went to pick up her car in a location sent by her then-boyfriend, who took off without asking permission. The incident happened when the man was apologizing to her in the street.

The day was July 20, 2002, when a young lady came out of nowhere with a mix of Red Devil Lye and Clorox and splashed it on Greenlee’s face.

Following the attack, Greenlee added that she was feeling warm in her face, the skin was coming off, there was blood all over her face, neck, chest, and back, and a white curtain came over her eyes.

Greenlee was airlifted to Augusta Burn Center after the incident, where she stayed in an induced coma for over a month.

The doctors took skin from Sabrina Greenlee’s legs and arms to save her life after she came out of coma

Sabrina Greenlee shared her painful experience in an interview with The Root on October 29, 2022, explaining her plastic surgery and eye operations.

In the interview, she said, “They took skin from my legs, my arms to save my life.” As her right part faced the most effect, doctors grafted skin to her face from her chest.

Greenlee further stated she had over 30 surgeries on each eye, which weakened them, and eventually became permanently blind in her right eye. At the same time, she lost 60% of visibility in her left eye.

She shared her course of going back and forth to regain her sight, and the traumatizing incident made her stay in the room for three and a half years.

Greenlee also shared how difficult her life was becoming as she had to look after her son, DeAndre Hopkins.

Yet, Hopkins was also her biggest strength in staying alive. Sabrina Greenlee has shared how her son Hopkins stopped her from taking the wrong step and gave her another chance at life.
