A huge victory to the Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer as he breaks the 14-year rule of Conservatives by winning the Member of Parliament general election on Thursday, July 4, with 326 seats out of 650 seats, to be the next Prime Minister of the UK.
As the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer will receive an annual salary of £91,346, amended since April 2024 as an MP, and £75,440 for leading the government.
Before the elections, he received an annual salary of £128,291 in 2022/2023 as an MP and as the opposition leader.
Besides his role as Labour leader, Sir Keir is a barrister and a licensed lawyer who received more than £21,000 for legal services but left the work for politics.
For his total income from his salary as a parliament member and capital gains, he paid a tax of £118,580 in 2022/23, £67,033 in 2021/22, and £51,547 in 2020/21.
Per Sir Keir’s salary, his net worth should be around £500,000 to £800,000, but he is also a landowner with houses worth millions, so there are more digits to add.
Sir Keir Starmer has £10 million worth of land purchased for his parents in Surrey
The Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, was born in Southwark, London, on September 2, 1962, to parents mother Josephine and father Rodney Starmer.
His parents were normal workers, with his dad working as a toolmaker and his mother as a nurse. They were also responsible for raising three children along with Sir Keir, as he was the second of the four.
Interestingly, they were great supporters of the Labour Party, and even Sir Keir’s name is after the party’s first parliamentary leader, Keir Hardie.
This boosted Sir Keir’s interest in politics as he joined the Labour Party Young Socialists at 16 but chose law as his career and graduated from the University of Leeds with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in 1985.
He then became a barrister in 1987 and eventually had the opportunity to be Queen’s Counsel in 2002. Sir Keir charged £400 per hour for his counseling as a lawyer.
However, he never let his law career affect his duty as a son. Sir Keir Starmer was a devoted son to his parents, as his mother had Still’s disease, and he wanted to help out her wish to house donkeys they had rescued and cared for.
So, Sir Keir bought 7 acres of land in Surrey in 1996, which are now worth £10 million per Nigel Greenhalgh of Surrey-based Village Developments. He said that per acre cost in the area is around £1.5 million.
Not to leave out, the Labour leader owns half a share in his late parent’s detached house in the same area, which currently has a market value of £480,000.
He also has a house in North London, which he shares with his wife, Victoria Starmer, which is worth around £1 million.
If we were to add it all up, Sir Keir Starmer’s total net worth would be over £10 million, but he has to confirm the numbers to officially note it.
