Ever since the advent of Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Portlandia has been steadily blossoming into a mini-Mecca of comedy. There’s always been a consistent trend of good food and drink in this town. What better cultural accoutrement than…a barrel of laughs? We have a couple picks of must-attend shows happening during this holiday month.

PDX Peeps, first up is monthly comedy showcase, Funny Over Everything, a series showcasing some of the best, most innovative up-and-coming stand-up comedians that the nation has to offer. It takes place at the Hollywood Theatre and is going down next Monday evening. This FOE show welcomes and features the hysterically funny Emily Heller. You may have seen Heller on Conan, on the third season of John Oliver’s New York Stand Up Show on Comedy Central, or as one of the New Faces at the 2012 Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. She has been named a Comic to Watch by both Variety and Comedy Central and is currently a writer on the FOX comedy Surviving Jack.

Opening acts include Bri Pruett (All Jane No Dick Comedy Festival), the always funny Amy Miller (San Francisco Sketch Fest) and Nick Walker (Bridgetown Comedy Festival). This show will be hosted by Sean Jordan and Superslice friend and star-in-the-making, Shane Torres. Buy your tickets HERE.

Check out our previous coverage for Ian Karmel’s Farewell Funny Over Everything show.

That following Friday the 13th, Nathan Brannon, another Superslice bud, turns 30 and throws a big comedy bash. This will take place at the Funhouse Lounge in SE Portland, the venue where he taped his first comedy special this past summer, the hilarious, I Black Out (check out our previous coverage). Nathan has been voted one of the “Top 5 Funniest” comedians for 2013, was named “Portland’s Funniest Person” in 2012, and recently opened in two cities for Dave Chappelle.

This show is FREE and will showcase, once again, Shane Torres (Portland’s Funniest Person 2013, Montreal Comedy Festival) and Sean Jordan (Doug Loves Movies podcast). Also making appearances will be  youngin’ Tim Hammer (Finalist – Portland’s Funniest Person Competition, Big Sky Comedy Competition), chuckle buddy Adam Pasi (Finalist – Portland’s Funniest Person Competition), Lance Edward (Shades of Laughs Comedy Competition), and Shawn “Boomer” Alan (Cort & Boomer Radio Show). See you there, Friday, December 13th, at Funhouse Lounge (2432 SE 11th Ave) at 10pm!

Finally, on Friday, December 27th, former Portland comics, Matt Braunger, Ron Funches, and Superlice homie, Ian Karmel, return home to P-Town for The 1st Annual Coldest and Darkest Time of the Year Comedy Spectacular. This trio of über-talented comedians will surely split your sides and make you spray beer through your nostrils, as they return from Los Angeles for the holidays, and put on a show for their fans, friends and family. This is not to be missed, especially for only ten bucks at the Mission Theater.

Happy Holidays, Rip City. Get yo’ funny on.
