Soundsystem: The ThrowAways Mixtape / Corté
We introduced hip hop hopeful Corté on our site, in the summer of 2012, debuting his SourLife2 Mixtape. We’re proud to drop his follow-up mixtape, The ThrowAways.
Once again, the East Coast rhyme-styler keeps it on point as he drops new-verse-after-new-verse over a plethora of classic beats. Our favorite is the leadoff track, as Corté rhymes over Kanye‘s classic Drive Slow, the original track which featured Paul Wall, GLC and T.I.
Other flows over Yé-related tracks include Watch the Throne‘s No Church in the Wild and the Philly homeboy utterly unloads over the track Theraflu (aka Way Too Cold). It takes some huevos to clock bars over the Raekwon/Wu-Tang anthem Ice Cream, but Corté is convincing, he’s no pretender, as he delivers 16 and then some. If that wasn’t brazen enough, he takes on Dead Presidents by Hov and comes out unscathed. Reasonable Doubt, c’mon!
We dig the old school juice of One Love, it grooves as it moves. Lord Knows recalls classic Nas. What You Talking Bout has a heavy trap feel. Likewise, Heavy Rotation inspires us to steady mob in our summer hooptie ride (Did I just say that?). Distance could be a radio banger TODAY.
Could we endorse this young brother any further? The Throwaways Mixtape gets our seal of approval.
Joey Bada$$, the Odd Futures and the A$AP crews of the hip hop world should take note, this dude, Corté Rumph, can hang, and might usurp y’all if you’re not vigilant. Philly, stand up.
The original beats were produced by StreetFameBeats.
