If You Love Me (Official Music Video) / BenZel x Jessie Ware
by TeemunnyPublished on Thursday, December 6, 2012
A collaboration by UK RNB sensation Jessie Ware and a pair of wunderkind producers from Osaka, Japan. The duo is known as BenZel (15 year-old Umi Takahashi and 16-year old Yoko Watanabe) and are based in New York. They both traveled to New York through their local foreign exchange program. They met in early 2012 through an online message board about ankle socks and quickly discovered they each had a profound appreciation for ’90s R&B and J. Dilla. After many failed attempts to create a hypoallergenic ankle sock, they decided to put their efforts toward other creative ventures. Following hours of soul searching; they decided to start BenZel.
Just an insane amount of talent for such a young age. The collaboration is of Brownstone‘s 1994 a cappella hit If You Love Me.
We offer two video versions; the mesmerizing lava lamp-esque visualization directed by Kate Moross (a frequent Jessie Ware collaborator),you can see above, and the live-action version directed by Haley Wollens, you can view below. (also included: the original song, at the end of this post, for good measure)
