Sadly, Don Cornelius, exemplar television show host, producer and creator of the nationally syndicated dance and music variety show, Soul Train, took his own life in the early hours of this morning. Cornelius had hosted the ’70s mainstay and famous show from 1971 to 1993, from the heart of the disco era and right into the postmodern early nineties.

It was said that he was stricken with dementia for some time. Cornelius was also suffering from multiple health issues, including a stroke and several undisclosed ailments that required brain surgery. Also taking an emotional toll was a brutal divorce that had been drawn out for the last couple of years of his life.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting discovered Cornelius at his Mulholland Drive home at about 4 a.m. Cornelius died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. It is depressing and always disturbing when creators of this caliber succumb in this fashion.

We hope that “The Black Dick Clark” has found the peace that he was yearning for, as we pay respect to the fellow Libra and icon with the memorable, mellifluous, bass-laden voice.

Blue times.

“And you can bet your last money, it’s all gonna be a stone gas, honey! I’m Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!”

Backatcha, Dude…
