Joe Kubert 1926-2012
by TeemunnyPublished on Tuesday, August 14, 2012
Joe Kubert, American comic book artist and giant in the comics industry, passed away this past Sunday. The master comic book artist, who has been a leader since the Golden Age era, and who was still largely relevant, died of multiple myeloma on August 12, 2012, three weeks shy of his 86th birthday.
If you know anything about comic books, you will know Kubert’s work, from his portrayal of DC Comics characters Sgt. Rock and Hawkman, to his creation of the series Tor. He established the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in 1976, in Dover, New Jersey.
His sons, Andy Kubert and Adam Kubert, are also successful comic book artists. I grew up reading and collecting many of Adam’s books and knew of his legendary father’s work through the gorgeous and rich covers that he produced.
Joe Kubert will be greatly missed in the comic book world; he was a comic book titan among comic book men. Later days.
