It’s Pop Culture Roundup 07, Baybee…

At the header, is a supercut composed of overhead shots of hands in the films of Wes Anderson by kogonada. The music is More to See by Jonathan Elias.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a 2012 American 3D supernatural horror film based on the 2010 mashup novel Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. The film is directed by Timur Bekmambetov and is produced by Bekmambetov and Tim Burton. The novel’s author, Seth Grahame-Smith, wrote the adapted screenplay. The real-life figure Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States (1861-1865), is fictionally portrayed in the novel and the film as having a secret identity as a vampire hunter. Benjamin Walker stars as Lincoln. Filming began in Louisiana in March 2011, and the film is being produced in 3D. It is scheduled to be released on June 22, 2012. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the blood-thirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead:

The Hunger Games Official Trailer #2 (2012), every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross. Suzanne Collins‘ best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following:

Here are some neat posters inspired by the cult-hit Drive. The first is by Melbourne-based illustrator and designer Ken Taylor. It was commissioned by the wildly successful cult-movie merchandise house, Mondo. This limited edition print sold out within seconds. Check out the Ken Taylor/Mondo archive.

The second is also an official release; the poster is by James White also known as Signalnoise. A friend at The Conjuring has created a retro-vintage VHS sleeve using the poster. It’s nicely distressed. Love that shit.

The fourth image is from amazing comic book artist Phil Noto. The rest of the images are alternative fan-made poster discovered all over the Internet. There are some righteous and appealing pieces.

99 Problems In Film, Eclectic Method mash up Jay Z‘s 99 Problems with a bunch of film clips. Supercut!

How about Lionel Richie‘s Hello composed of only dialogue from movies? Here’s Matthijs Vlot to the rescue:

A couple of months ago, we saw the miracle release of the Nike MAG by The Swoosh from the classic flick Back to the Future: Part II. At the time, I jokingly challenged Mattel to come out with the hoverboard. Well, dreams keep coming true:

Mattel Press Release via /Film:

Back to the Future Hover Board: Finally! This totally awesome 1:1 replica of the hover board from the BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 films includes multiple whooshing sounds and will glide over most surfaces (does not actually “hover” – check back in 2015 for that feature). We’ll be taking orders for it March 1 – March 20, 2012, and the final product will be shipped around November/December 2012. Because this is such a high-cost item, there will be a minimum number of orders required to go into production. If we don’t receive the minimum orders, won’t go into production and customers will not be charged. The price will be announced later this month. (Note: Hover board does not work on water.)

Here are some random video goodies.

Also from the same producer of the Wes Anderson supercut at the header here is Breaking Bad Remix. Montage of POV shots mostly from inanimate objects (e.g., frying pan, toilet, wood floor, dryer, shovel, sidewalk, parking lot, clipboard, roomba, pizza, bathtub, refrigerator, pool, vent, cleaning brush, etc). Music is Move by Jonathan Elias:

Here is a well done video essay titled The Spielberg Face:

With his two new movies War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin, Steven Spielberg commands our attention once again. We’ve taken the occasion to produce the following video essay exploring what may be the most singular visual element to his films: the face.

The transcript is available HERE.

25 Greatest Unscripted Scenes in Films, twenty-five great scenes in film that actually were not scripted, but rather, improvised. Keep the captions on, as it will explain the improvisation:

22 Bonds for One Minute,

The first minute of all the James Bond films at once. This is a section of a larger project (i.e. all the Bond films at once) designed to give a feeling for the entire experience. It is also quite odd:

There’s some fun stuff for ya. See you next time, same slice-time, same slice-channel…
